How Your Pledges and Participation Help Frederick's Animals & Pet Owners:

Subsidized Spay/Neuter Programs:
The Frederick County Humane Society works with area vets to coordinate programs, such as the annual Quick Fix for male cats, and our recent female spay event, to help decrease the homeless pet population in Frederick County.
Spaying and neutering are critical steps in eliminating the need for euthanizing healthy, adoptable pets.

Education:
Individuals of all ages who learn how to care for animals become good pet owners and responsible citizens.
Puppy parenting, dog obedience training and various Humane Education sessions are held year round at our offices.
Our volunteers also speak at schools and clubs of audiences, helping to foster the link between animal empathy and responsible pet care.

Pet Bereavement Counseling:
Professional grief counselors and graduate students from Hood College's Department of Thanatology are available to meet in evening sessions at the FCHS offices with owners who have suffered the loss of a pet.
Sessions are held once a month.

Rabies and Microchip Clinics:
Rabies vaccines are administered by area vets for a nominal fee.
In addition, microchips (implanted permanent IDs) are available for dogs, cats and ferrets.
Pets receiving this high-tech ID are entered into a nationwide database, making return of lost pets to their owners virtually guaranteed.
Rabies vaccines and Frederick County pet licenses are also available.

Pet Owners Emergency Assistance:
Pets facing a medical crisis whose owners have financial challenges can receive assistance through this program.
We offer a pet food bank as well.

The Frederick County Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping pets and their people since 1901.

Funds raised at Walk-N-Wag support our:

  • Low cost Spay/Neuter Programs for cats and dogs
  • Spay/Neuter Clinics for cats
  • Quarterly Rabies and Microchip Clinics
  • Cooperative spay/neuter programs for rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals
  • Humane Education seminars and community outreach
  • Dog Obedience Classes
  • Emergency Financial Assistance for Pets in Crisis
  • Crates and Have-A-Heart trap loaner programs

Our wonderful volunteers are critical to the success of our programsthat help the animals.
